Swing into Action

September 25, 2023
By Dr. Susan DeMoss

Last Monday, CHA hosted its twenty-fifth golf tournament at Hidden Trails Golf and Country Club. Alumni, alumni parents, current families, friends, and partners joined us for a beautiful day on the course. The tournament offered two new hole opportunities: a football kick and a CHA-ching-a-ring. Proceeds of over $64,000 will provide increased athletic opportunities at CHA, including Ralph Bullard Training Facility equipment and John Merrell Sports Complex upgrades.

Support of CHA athletics ultimately helps our school and coaches more effectively train our student-athletes. Partnerships help us train American Christian leaders who are ambassadors for Jesus Christ in athletics. For His Glory!

Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you, on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.—2 Corinthians 5:20

Thank you for swinging into action to invest in our student-athletes.

1787

Sunday, our nation celebrated the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787. On Friday, CHA’s student body from PK–12th grades joined together to remember what God has done in our nation.

CHA’s mission statement reads—

The purpose of Christian Heritage Academy is to assist the home and church in building a solid foundation in the life of each student--a life which is characterized by a personal salvation experience, the development of Christian character, the Christian conscience, and Christian self-government. The ultimate goal of the Academy is to produce true Christian scholars who will be used of God to propagate the Gospel throughout the whole world and to restore our American Christian Republic to its historic, Biblical foundation.

As the first graders recited the preamble of the Constitution, all the upperclassmen in the room were invited to join in the recitation. Memories of elementary school filled the room. The guest speaker for the celebration was Jackson Cargill, an alumnus of the Class of 2020. Starting at CHA in pre-kindergarten, he recalled the lessons he learned at CHA regarding Christian character, conscience, and self-government. As a senior at Stanford University, Mr. Cargill has had the opportunity to serve under two US Senators, learn about our nation’s government, and even help write legislation. He championed the students to be involved in the governmental process and express gratitude for the education that they are receiving at CHA.

I am thankful for CHA’s commitment to train students in God’s Providence. I am thankful that their zeal for HIStory extends beyond our telephone number, (405) 672-1787.

Strike Up the Band

If anyone has ever attended a CHA home football game, you know it is a little taste of “Mayberry.” The smell of hotdogs and hamburgers fills the air. Elementary kids play in the field. Parents linger in the stands after the play is over. Alumni gather by the fence. Grandparents enjoy watching their student-athletes compete. The band plays. Time stands still.

I love many things about CHA, but one of the best is the innocence of a CHA football game. It is a place where children can still be children. Five dollars can buy an evening of entertainment. Community is built. But most of all, after the game is over, you leave the stadium and thank God for allowing your family to attend CHA.

I don't know what you have planned for September 22. Come join us as we “strike up the band.”

Over Twenty Years in the Making

Christian Heritage Academy acquired its current location in 1988. Originally the home of First Southern Del City, the space was constructed as a church.  Over the years, the structure has allowed CHA to grow to educate over 640 students each year. However, with large group department areas and small Sunday school spaces on the third floor, some space was unsuitable for classrooms. Since the late 1990s, administrators have discussed plans to remodel the third floor to provide better classroom space, junior high locker room facilities, and disability access to upper floors through an elevator.

In August, the school began renovating the third floor, providing enhanced classrooms, well-equipped junior high science labs, additional classroom space, and upgraded security features on the third floor. Through the $2 million grant received and generous donations exceeding $ 1.5 million from constituents, the Lord has provided the opportunity to better achieve our mission of training true Christian scholars with a Biblical worldview.

For more than twenty years, faithful families, partners, and faculty members have prayed for the Lord to continue to fulfill His plan and purposes for Christian Heritage Academy. May it be said of us twenty years from now that we, too, have been faithful to pray and support the ministry of CHA. He is faithful (Deuteronomy 7:9)!
