Crowns

October 30, 2023
By Dr. Susan DeMoss
“Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.” — Proverbs 17:6

Last week, the elementary school hosted a Grandparents’ Day chapel. Grandparents and parents filled the auditorium with smiles and hugs. I was recently listening to a podcast that shared that the role of a grandparent has increased in importance in our society. In a world where the culture vacillates, the need for parents and grandparents to be pillars of truth in a child’s life is critical. I am thankful for our families at CHA and the legacy of faith that is generational in so many. Grandparents, may you enjoy your “crown” as you demonstrate to the world the importance of family.

Mindset

The theme of this year’s CHA State Champion Volleyball Team was “mindset.” A mindset is defined as an attitude held by someone. A mindset is described as beliefs that shape your world. A current term in business and education theory is “growth mindset.” It is the understanding that intellectual abilities and talents are the starting points developed through hard work and dedication. It is the idea that all things are possible. It is also known as redemptive thinking.

God’s word reminds us time and again that He is able to:

  • Make all things new (Revelations 21:5)
  • Turn into beauty from ashes (Isaiah 61:3)
  • Do the impossible (Matthew 19:26)

I am so thankful for our coaches at CHA, who teach our student-athletes more than athletic skills and strategy. They focus on the heart, soul, and mind and point the students towards Christ. Our distinct philosophy of athletics helps “set” their “minds” on the things above (Col 3:2).

Where the Spirit of The Lord Is

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.—2 Corinthians 3:17-18

Last Thursday, CHA hosted its annual Patriotic Program. Our elementary students proclaimed the principles of liberty. Through Christ, we are set free from sin and, through the Holy Spirit, have the power to demonstrate self-government. All external liberty is a result of internal liberty. Thomas Jefferson wrote, “That government is best when it governs the least because its people discipline themselves.” At CHA, self-government is taught from pre-kindergarten through senior year. As guests enter our building, the effect of internal liberty is seen externally in our halls, at athletic events, and in our classrooms. Christ makes the difference.

The answer to our nation’s concerns is not more government but rather the Lord transforming hearts and minds, one person at a time. If you would like to hear more about how you could divert some of your tax dollars to provide scholarships to students so that more could hear these truths, please contact Dr. Susan DeMoss. We are hosting informational breakfasts and lunches on November 2, November 16, and November 30.  Breakfasts will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. in Mr. J. Bullard’s office. Lunches will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Mr. J. Bullard’s office. All events are free; anyone (parents, grandparents, business owners, friends) interested in learning more about this opportunity is invited to attend. If you are interested in reading more, please visit our website or the Opportunity Scholarship Fund. If you would like to attend one of our informational breakfasts or lunches, please contact Dr. Susan DeMoss at sdemoss@cha.org or phone at 672-1787 Ext 233 or complete this online form.

Thank you for praying for CHA. We hope you enjoyed the Patriotic Program on Friday. It was another reminder that where the Spirit of the Lord is….there is freedom.

All in the Family

“ For through him, we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers,
but fellow citizens with God's people and also members of his household,”
Ephesians 2:18-19

One of the blessings of being part of the family of God is the support and encouragement. On Friday, CHA students, faculty, and staff members wore yellow to support Leavyn, a first-grade student diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in 2019.  She rang the bell on her fifth birthday and recently relapsed in July 2023. Over the past eighteen years that I have been at CHA, there have been a handful of teachers and one student who has battled cancer. I am so thankful that we have “access to the Father by one Spirit” to intercede for members of the body of Christ. I am grateful that we are no longer “strangers” to one another but “members of His household.”

Prayer is powerful. I am thankful to many faithful saints who pray daily for our faculty, staff, students, and families. Prayer makes a difference.
