STEM Day 2026: Hands-On Discovery at Oklahoma Baptist University

Last week, the advanced math students participated in STEM Day at Oklahoma Baptist University. Students chose from four tracks, including science, engineering/physics, applied science/technology, or forensics. Each track included three rotations with hands-on activities and high engagement. Students analyzed fingerprints and made molds of shoe prints as evidence. Activities also included measuring the protein content of a milkshake, using microscopes, examining fossils, and breaking code.

Four Tracks, One Day of Discovery

The math activities were designed to explore real-world problems in fun, engaging ways. As math and science fields continue to show high demand in the workforce, with a shortage of qualified applicants, this experience was valuable for showcasing students' interests.

Mathematics: The Language of the Universe

Galileo Galilei wrote in his 1623 treatise The Assayer (Il Saggiatore) that mathematics was the language of the universe. It is interesting that while foreign exchange students may have difficulty with
English, the language of mathematics, transcends language barriers. 2 + 2 = 4 for any people group.

Seeing God's Order in Mathematics

The order of mathematics is a revelation of God's character. Throughout "His" story, we see His providential hand. The metanarrative (Creation, Fall, Redemption, Restoration) reveals His order and loving care for humanity. The mathematical principle of substitution is first seen in Genesis 3 and, ultimately, through Christ's redemptive plan on the cross.

At Christian Heritage Academy, each subject is taught from biblical principles. This methodology is called the Principle Approach©, which distinguishes CHA from other Christian schools in the city. This methodology stems from the belief that God's Word is the source of all truth. Scripture is not tacked on to the lesson; the lesson springs from Scripture. This pedagogy enriches the curriculum and goes beyond basic facts.

I am grateful to the faculty who demonstrate Christian scholarship every Wednesday afternoon and fulfill CHA's mission. Luke 6:40 reminds us that a student is not above his teacher, for when he is fully trained, he will be like him.
