Deep Roots

February 27, 2023
By Dr. Susan DeMoss

CHA has roots deeply planted in God’s Word. Those deep roots have caused CHA to flourish for over fifty-one years. From the influence of the founding church, Sunnyside, under the leadership of Pastor Harry Boydstun, to the investment of First Southern Del City under the leadership of Dr. Tom Elliff, CHA was firmly planted on God’s Word and valued the importance of the local church. The influence of those churches can still be seen.

In the 1980s, Dr. Tom Elliff desired for CHA to have First Southern’s building located at the corner of 29th and Sunnylane. He believed in Christian education. Mr. Ralph Bullard fondly told the story of Pastor Tom saying, “Christian Heritage Academy is just like the proverbial camel. You want to get your nose under the tent, but then you want to take over the whole tent.”

Pastor Elliff was also influential in the beginning of CHA’s international mission program. He invited Mr. R. Bullard to go on a mission trip to Zimbabwe to see the impact of missions first hand. After that trip, the school took its first mission trip to Mexico. Since then, students have traveled to Russia, Brazil, Honduras, Jamaica, Uganda, Mozambique, Haiti, Thailand, China, Israel, and many more. The heart for the gospel is one of the deep roots of our heritage.

On April 4, we will celebrate our heritage. From 5:30–6:30 pm, a reception in the Jim Elliott Memorial Gymnasium will be held to allow the CHA family to celebrate relationships with new and old friends. Immediately following, we will have an opportunity to celebrate what the Lord is doing at CHA in the auditorium. Dr. Tom Elliff will be our keynote speaker. During the evening, the “Liberty Leader” winners will be announced.

Heritage Celebration 2023

February 13, 2023
By Dr. Susan DeMoss

In 1972, God placed upon the heart of Pastor Harry Boydstun and the congregation of Sunnyside Baptist Church to begin a new school in Oklahoma City. For over fifty years, CHA has been faithful to the mission that God gave in those early years. Through partnering with the home and the church, CHA has produced over 1800 graduates. Many are being used throughout our world to propagate the gospel and be leaders in their spheres of society. The theme verse for the year is Isaiah 58:12, “And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in.”

On April 4, 2023, the Heritage Celebration is an opportunity to celebrate what the Lord has done and is doing at CHA. This year’s Celebration will provide a reception time for alumni and current families to celebrate and connect. Hors d'oeuvres will be served from 5:30 -6:30 pm, followed by a short program. During the evening, the “Liberty Leader” winners will be announced. This year’s guest speaker will be Dr. Tom Elliff.

One Hundred

February 06, 2023
By Dr. Susan DeMoss

Most of the colleges in the United States that started over three hundred years ago were originally Bible-proclaiming schools. Harvard and Yale (originally Puritan) and Princeton (originally Presbyterian) once had rich Christian purposes (Hodge, 2007). Within the first one hundred years, none had continued to uphold their original doctrinal stance within the first one hundred years.

Last week, the kindergarten and first-grade classes celebrated the 100th day of school. Counting to a hundred and dressing up like one who is a hundred were just a few of the festivities. Christian Heritage Academy is fifty-one years old this year. It is halfway to the one-hundred mark. I am thankful for the men and women that God has called to work at CHA.  Their commitment to CHA’s mission and vision for over fifty years is the foundation for the next generation of students. It is our prayer that God will continue to protect CHA and give us a zealousness to pursue His vision and mission for our school for the next fifty years and until Christ returns.
