Safe Defend

November 28, 2023
By Dr. Susan DeMoss

Through the generous giving of one of our donors, CHA installed SafeDefend in 2020. SafeDefend is a rapid notification system that uses employees’ fingerprints to alert school personnel and the police in the case of a lockdown situation. Staff and law enforcement are contacted immediately so the school can be locked down faster, and help will be on the way. This Thursday, November 30, our students will participate in a schoolwide drill. While we pray that we will never have to use this tool, we understand that the Lord has given us wisdom and the resources to provide a safe environment for all students and employees.

Beyond these new safety upgrades, the faculty and staff at CHA pray daily for our school and the students.  Our Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning devotion times are times of prayer. The teachers pray daily with the students. One of my favorite sights is watching Mr. Josh Bullard walk through the halls, greeting the teachers in the mornings in their classrooms and praying over each room. While resources like SafeDefend are necessary in today’s culture, we ultimately understand that the Lord is our shield.

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to Him.” — Psalm 28:7

Masterpiece

Last Thursday night, CHA hosted its annual Fine Arts Gala. The evening was filled with music, rhetoric, art, and engagement. I am so thankful for our Fine Arts department, which aims to glorify God through the fine arts. As I looked at the student-produced art and listened to the student performances, I was grateful to the Master Artist who had fearfully and wonderfully created each of these children. Our God is an awesome God!

If you were not able to attend the Fine Arts Gala, there are several Christmas programs in December. I encourage you to look at the school calendar and attend.

God has blessed CHA with over 650 students enrolled. Because of the Opportunity Scholarship Fund (OSF), 149 students received the opportunity to attend CHA with these scholarships. The Opportunity Scholarship Fund is a program established by the state of Oklahoma. It allows taxpayers to divert some of their tax dollars to the private institution of their choice and receive a tax credit. This year, because of the generous tax donors at CHA, over $550,000 was awarded in scholarships.

Please consider learning more about the OSF and how you could use some of your tax dollars to allow other students to attend CHA. We are hosting informational breakfasts and lunches on November 30. Breakfast meetings will be from 7:30–8:15 am, and lunch sessions from 11:30–12:30 pm in Mr. J. Bullard’s office. All events are free; anyone (parents, grandparents, business owners, friends) interested in learning more about this opportunity is invited to attend. If you want to read more, please visit our website or the OSF's site. If you wish to attend one of our informational breakfasts or lunches, please contact Dr. Susan DeMoss at sdemoss@cha.org or at 672-1787 Ext 233.

Thank you for praying for CHA. Have a wonderful week!
