Repairer of the Breach

Christian Heritage Academy was founded in 1972 by Sunnyside Baptist Church. It was under the leadership of Pastor Harry Boydston that the congregation felt led to start a Christian school which would be used to restore education to its original intent. From the beginning, the school’s guiding verse has been Isaiah 58:12, “Those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins. You will raise up the age-old foundations, and you will be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of the paths in which to dwell.”

In 2017, the leadership of CHA wrote a fourteen-year plan called it, Vision 2031. This vision outlines the growth and development of CHA for the next fourteen years. Part of the plan is to train the next generation of Christian educators. Four years ago, we began RestorED Educators’ Conference to help accomplish this goal. The purpose of the conference is to train educators in worldview and current pedagogy. As a result of our Professional Development Endowment, we are also able to offer world-class speakers to train. Last year, we had over fifty educators from various Christian schools and home-schools. The two-day conference is open to any parent, educator, or lay person. Here is the schedule for the conference. The cost is $40 which includes breakfast, lunch and snacks for two days, two books and conference materials. Here is the link to pay.

This year, we are honored to have Mrs. Nancy Pearcey as our guest speaker. She is the author of Love Thy Body: Answering Hard Questions about Life and Sexuality. Her earlier books include The Soul of Science, Saving Leonardo, Finding Truth, and two ECPA Gold Medallion Award Winners: How Now Shall We Live (coauthored with Harold Fickett and Chuck Colson) and Total Truth. Her books have been translated into nine languages. She is professor and scholar in residence at Houston Baptist University. A former agnostic, Pearcey has spoken at universities such as Princeton, Stanford, USC, and Dartmouth. She was highlighted as one of the five top women apologists by Christianity Today and was hailed in The Economist as “America's preeminent evangelical Protestant female intellectual.”

We would love for you to attend or to invite anyone who might be interested. Thank you for praying for our educators as we seek to restore.

Go Big Blue

2021-22 Seventh Graders

For years, a blue door separated the elementary school from the secondary school. Sixth graders would look with anticipation towards the day when they would pass through the blue door to the other side. The blue door symbolized a rite of passage, a sign of growing up, and more increased liberty. While the door is no longer painted blue, becoming a secondary student still holds great excitement. Last week, the secondary administration hosted the tenth annual “Go Big Blue—Secondary Orientation.” Students and parents visited each seventh grade classroom and heard from administration and current seventh graders on the upcoming opportunities of a secondary student. From opening lockers to meeting their senior buddies, our new seventh graders enjoyed a wonderful afternoon together.

The event is supported by our parents and PURPOSE. Monies are provided by PURPOSE for the event. Sixth grade parents help decorate the cafeteria and organize the food. CHA is extremely blessed to have such supportive parents who give of their time, resources, and talents in a variety of ways. Parent involvement has long been recognized as an indicator of increased student achievement. Our mission at CHA is to support their home and the church in building a solid foundation in the life of each student. We are blessed to partner with you in your student’s education.

As the school year draws to a close, please come out and support our golf, tennis, baseball, and soccer teams as they play in the state tournaments. Let’s “Go Big Blue!”

2021 Faculty and Staff

May 3–7 is National Teacher Appreciation Week. In light of the recent pandemic, the importance of education and value of educators has been increased. The caliber of teachers at CHA is distinct. With over thirty percent of our faculty having advanced degrees, our faculty can provide over forty hours of dual-credit course work. Eight of our faculty members have served at Christian Heritage Academy for over twenty years. This longevity provides a rich heritage. Fifteen percent of our faculty, with another ten percent in progress, are designated Master Teachers in our distinct Principle Approach Methodology which enables us to train the next generation of faculty members. Unlike other districts that require the state minimum of fifteen hours of professional development hours each year, CHA designates over a hundred hours each year with additional days in the summer for professional development. From special grade-level events to excellence in the arts and athletics, our teachers devote countless hours beyond the school day.

This investment of time is rooted in Luke 6:40 which states that a student when he is fully trained will be like his teacher. CHA believes that the teacher is the living curriculum. CHA’s advancements in curriculum design provide our new teachers and students with a solid academic foundation. CHA’s distinct eight principles of leadership are being used to train character and develop leaders. This is a fulfillment of our school’s vision statement which is to train Christian leaders in every sphere of society who understand America’s gospel purpose.  Our distinct five-step process of Biblical reasoning undergirds our mission of producing true Christian scholars who will propagate the gospel to the whole world and who will be used to teach others the principles of liberty which were used in the formation of our nation.

If you have a moment, would you please pray for your student’s teacher this week? Would you consider writing them an email or sending a card? CHA teachers selflessly give of their time to invest in the lives of their students for the kingdom of God. It is a blessing to work alongside each of them each day. I am blessed. We are blessed.
