As the Senior Class Goes

January 29, 2024
By Dr. Susan DeMoss

Last week was homecoming at CHA. The theme was “Road Trip.” The student council’s focus for the year has been on connecting to God and connecting to others. Members of the student council worked diligently to decorate the halls prior to the week and spent hours during the year developing the schedule of festivities. They did a great job.

Each morning, the secondary student body would meet in the auditorium to select the best dressed and compete for the coveted spirit stick award. From year to year, participation has varied. Sometimes, the competition has been fierce. This year, while the battle was competitive, the students were encouraging to each other.

Mr. Holmes always said, “As the senior class goes, so goes the school.” This year’s senior class has led with joy, unity, and creativity. On the final day of the competition, Mr. Scott Gramling said that the seniors had successfully transformed the stage into a mini “Bass Pro” shop. From a kayak to a tent, the seniors brought the heat to surpass the juniors in the rivaled competition. But when it was all done, the entire secondary student body was near the stage…together. Seventh and eighth-grade students mingled among the upperclassmen, cheering with school spirit rather than against each other. They had connected.

Isn’t this one of the best things about school? Fun dress-up days, decorations that adorn the halls, and memories that last a lifetime? Thank you, students, for a great week. I can’t wait until the next “road trip.”
