The Greatest Show - The Importance of Parent Involvement

November 05, 2018
By Dr. Susan DeMoss

Last Thursday night, “The Greatest Show” Fall Festival was held. PURPOSE (Parents Utilizing Resources Providing Opportunities Serving and Encouraging) hosted this event. It is hard to imagine what school would be like without parent involvement. Parent involvement has been linked to strong social/emotional growth, positive student behavior, and academic achievement. Interestingly, in many schools parent involvement is non-existant or limited. Hundreds of research studies have been conducted on how to increase parent involvement and the benefits of it. Legislation has been written to even mandate parent involvement.

At Christian Heritage Academy, the faculty and staff understand that parents are the most important teachers and role models in a child’s life. Our mission at CHA is to assist the home and the church in building a solid foundation in the life of each student - a life which is characterized by a personal salvation experience, the development of Christian character, the Christian conscience and Christian self-government. CHA is blessed to have parents who are actively involved in their student’s lives and understand their God-given role. From helping with homework, serving on committees, working on drama set designs, to volunteering at athletic events, parents are a vital part of Christian Heritage Academy.

How grateful we are that our families live out Deuteronomy 6:6-9. Parent involvement is an integral part of Christian Heritage Academy. From PK-12th grade, parents are valued. As parents you are automatically members of PURPOSE and Booster Club. These organizations promote school spirit, host events to build community, conduct fundraisers to provide resources for the internal needs of the school such as homeroom moms, athletic and playground equipment, faculty/staff love offerings, and STEM needs. We are grateful for the leadership teams in both of these parent organizations.

As I watched our parents last Thursday night, it made me think of the lyrics to the title song from the Greatest Showman.  As they watched their children play, laugh and run with such innocence, it was almost like I could hear the echo of their heart, “It is every thing I ever need. It is every thing I ever want and it is here right in front of me. This is the greatest show.” Thank you parents for your investment in your child’s life. Thank you Lord for these precious families and their investment in Christian Heritage Academy. It is an honor to partner with you on this journey.

Please remember that on November 12, we are hosting informational breakfast (7:30-8:15 am) and lunch (11:30-12:15 pm)  sessions to provide more information on this tax-credit opportunity. Last week, we had six families attend one of these sessions to learn more about this opportunity. We already have eleven registered for our November session. If you would like to attend, please contact Dr. DeMoss at 672-1787 ext. 233 or email at osf@cha.org. Please RSVP at least two days prior to the date.
